Hi, I’m Andres. Software engineer & data architect.

I work across Python applications, APIs, data systems, and applied AI. I enjoy understanding complicated problems, working through them with good people, and building solutions others can rely on.

01 About

A little
about me.

I’ve spent more than a decade working where software, data, and real operational problems meet.

Born and raised in El Paso and now based in Phoenix, I’ve worked across Fortune 100 environments, nonprofits, and startups. Each role has reinforced the same instinct: understand the problem clearly, then build something people can rely on.

At heart, I’m a Python enthusiast. Data architecture was my first professional discipline, and it still shapes how I think about APIs, models, and product decisions. More recently, I’ve been building AI features and the workflows that help engineers develop them responsibly.

02

Hunnie Homes · Phoenix, AZ

Founder & Engineer

Building a property-management SaaS as its sole founder and engineer.

Selected contributions
  • Own the product and infrastructure across Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, application servers, and Celery workers.
  • Built a PydanticAI assistant that uses property, lease, and financial tools with authorization, privacy controls, and bounded execution enforced by the server.
  • Designed a ticket-to-PR workflow that connects Linear, planning, implementation, verification, and independent AI reviews.
  • Added evaluations for tool choice, answer correctness, authorization, privacy, and resilience, with answers grounded in application records.
03

American Express · Phoenix, AZ

Senior AI/ML Software Engineer

Built the FastAPI foundation for production screening services and improved the team’s development practices.

Selected contributions
  • Replaced six-hour file-based sanctions and politically exposed person screening with request-driven inference for account decisions.
  • Implemented application lifecycle, model loading, validation, and configuration; tested staging workloads and configured Kubernetes autoscaling with Helm.
  • Used OpenTelemetry traces to find latency in model initialization, request preprocessing, and inference.
  • Established reviews and consistent Docker, uv, Ruff, and pre-commit environments for about 10 engineers across three locations.
  • Built a FastAPI foundation for a suspicious activity report summarization proof of concept and prototyped LangChain and LangGraph integrations.
04

AlertMedia · Phoenix, AZ

Senior Software Engineer

Built platform APIs and led a shift from uniform administrator access to granular permissions.

Selected contributions
  • Owned the platform-wide move to role-based permissions, letting customers assign administrative capabilities to users or groups.
  • Built Django/DRF APIs and asynchronous ingestion with Celery and RabbitMQ, integrated Microsoft Entra ID/Graph and Concur, and supported AWS services.
  • Mentored more than five engineers and co-developed a prototype that turned natural-language criteria into emergency notification-group rules.
05

American Express · Phoenix, AZ

Data Engineer

Delivered internal applications and relational data solutions in a large enterprise environment.

Selected contributions
  • Led internal application delivery with business and engineering teams, modernized a legacy monolith into Java/Spring microservices, and automated Jenkins CI/CD.
  • Designed MySQL and Oracle data solutions for enterprise workflows and reliable data operations.
06

Foundation for Blind Children · Phoenix, AZ

Developer & Data Analyst

Built backend and data systems for a five-person initiative at the nonprofit.

Selected contributions
  • Built backend systems, data ingestion, and Python reporting to support applications and decisions.
07

University of Arizona · Phoenix, AZ

Assistant Python Teacher

Co-instructed Python, data analysis, and web development courses.

Selected contributions
  • Guided students through hands-on Python work and application development.
08

American Express · Phoenix, AZ

Data Architect

Worked as an embedded data architect across transactional application teams.

Selected contributions
  • Designed normalized logical and physical data models for regulatory reporting and third-party lifecycle management.
  • Led ERD and data-model reviews, translated designs into database scripts, and deployed schema changes as a DBA.
  • Defined data standards and dictionaries to keep teams and systems consistent.
04 Principles

What matters
to me.

01

Work that matters

I’m most motivated by products and industries that address real-world problems or make life better for others.

02

Voice & ownership

I do my best work when I can contribute to decisions, listen to other perspectives, share my own, and follow through on what I own.

03

Better together

Diverse, curious, and enjoyable teams bring out better ideas and better versions of all of us.

04

Work-life balance

As much as I love what I do, work is one part of who I am. Family, friends, and being a father matter just as much, and that balance helps me show up well in my career.
